Mike Frisbey faithfully served as To Every Tribe’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for almost three years. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor late last year and passed away April 18, 2016. After serving as a bank vice president for many years, Mike intended to retire into full-time ministry serving as our CFO, but God had better plans for his life.
The last time I talked with Mike, it was on a conference call with several of To Every Tribe’s leadership. Mike was recovering from surgery to remove his brain tumor, but was giving us a report on the finances of the ministry. After giving us a quick synopsis of the financial reports, Mike gave us an even more important report. “We serve a sovereign God,” he told us, “don’t ever forget that.” He encouraged us to trust in God more and more and to look to Him in all things. Mike then insisted that we buy and read a book titled The Insanity of God, by Nik Ripken.
In the prologue of the book, Ripken states, “When I heard about God’s desire to reach the entire world with His grace, I quickly saw that I had a personal responsibility to fulfill that mission.” Mike felt this “personal responsibility” to be part of God’s mission and had directed his paths to do so by using the gifts and skills given to him by God.
Mike was a quiet man, but a man with a burning passion “to extend the worship of Christ among all peoples.” God provided him to serve as To Every Tribe’s CFO over the last few years, but, more importantly, he will be remembered as a man who trusted in the absolute sovereignty of God and was seeking more and more to be part of reaching the unreached with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Please lift up Mike’s wife, Paula, and his family in prayer and praise God for a life well lived by Mike. Mike requested that memorial gifts in his honor be made to the ministry of To Every Tribe – please click here if you would like to contribute. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” (Psalm 116:15).
