This summer internship immerses you in a remote and isolated Ojibwe First Nation community of about 700 people in Northwest Ontario, Canada. To Every Tribe missionaries have recently planted an indigenous church, and nearly a decade of children’s ministry has laid a foundation for gospel presence in this community. Local language fluency is a mix of Ojibwe only (oldest elders), Ojibwe and English (most 40s and up) and English only (most 20s and younger).
As an intern, you will join an existing missionary family in their ongoing work. In addition, a major focus of this internship is intentional outreach to high school and college-aged young adults who are struggling with isolation, depression, broken homes, and other deep challenges. You will seek to build relationships through sports and community activities such as baseball, volleyball, the communities youth programs, and spending time at the community recreation center.
This is relational work: building trust, pouring into youth who desperately need hope, and walking with a few who have already expressed interest in Christ or shown signs of faith. The role requires flexibility, perseverance, and a social personality — someone who enjoys making new friends, is fun to be around, and at the same time brings the gospel into their relationships.
Serving in this community will stretch you as you step into difficult groundbreaking ministry, walking alongside a missionary family living in isolation. It is both challenging and deeply rewarding work, with the potential to impact young people with the gospel who could become the future leaders of the church in this community.
