Missionary Training

What is a Missionary?

A missionary is a disciple of Jesus, sent by the local church and empowered by the Holy Spirit to cross cultures and make disciples.
Missionaries don’t just go—they stay, learn, build trust, and plant churches that last.

At To Every Tribe, we believe missionary work isn’t just about what you do—it’s about who you are: someone rooted in the Gospel and committed to seeing it flourish in places it’s never been.

What Does a Missionary Do?

There’s no one-size-fits-all. The work is diverse, but the purpose is the same: to make disciples and see the Gospel take root through indigenous local churches.

Missionaries might:

Learn language and culture to communicate clearly

Share the Gospel with those who’ve never heard it

Disciple new believers through life-on-life relationships

Train leaders and teach Scripture

Raise children in a way that models the Gospel to a community
Use trade skills or medical knowledge to build trust and open doors
Support logistics, technology, or administration to keep a team healthy

Serve in rural villages, urban centers, or remote regions—anywhere the Gospel is needed

Missionary jobs aren’t just pulpits and preaching.

Sometimes the most impactful Gospel work happens around dinner tables, in clinics, on dirt roads, and through the quiet faithfulness of mothers, farmers, teachers, builders, and businesspeople living on mission.

If you’re wondering whether there’s a role for you—the answer is probably yes.

Mission Is Slower, Harder, and More Beautiful Than You Think

Our 8-phase framework outlines what real missionary life looks like:

Phase 1: Arrive humbly and listen

Phase 3: Build trust and serve well

Phase 3: Engage in spiritual conversations

Phase 4: Proclaim the Gospel with clarity

Phase 5: Nurture new believers

Phase 6: Walk with them through challenges

Phase 7: Equip them to become leaders

Phase 8: Affirm them as they plant and grow the church.
