A Remote Pioneer Church Planting Missionary in Ecuador focuses on establishing self-sustaining, reproducing churches across unreached jungle communities through language acquisition, cultural integration, and regional strategy.

Imagine looking out over the dense, unreached jungle communities of southeastern Ecuador. For those whose ambition is to preach the gospel where Christ has not been named, this is the frontier.

At To Every Tribe, we exist to extend the worship of Jesus to every tribe by equipping and sending gospel-driven disciple-makers to serve on cross-cultural church planting teams. Today, we are sharing a critical opening within our Sending & Planting department for a Remote Pioneer Church Planting Missionary in Ecuador.

A To Every Tribe family has already labored to establish a church in the largest county seat of this region. But beyond this town lie 30 remote, hard-to-reach communities of Mestizo, Shuar, and Saraguro peoples. We urgently need additional laborers to carry the gospel of Christ into these surrounding areas.

If you have a deep conviction for pioneer church planting and the resilience to thrive in remote environments, God may be calling you to join this established work.

Role Overview: Pioneer Church Planting in Ecuador

This role is not for the faint of heart; it is for those committed to the slow, deep work of cross-cultural ministry.

As a Remote Pioneer Church Planting Missionary, your initial focus will be entirely on foundational learning. You will commit to attaining a high proficiency in Spanish and fully integrating into the life and ministry of the existing church.

Once that foundation is built, your role shifts outward. In deep collaboration with local believers, you will develop and implement a strategy for planting churches among the unreached towns and communities throughout the county. Your objective is not just to evangelize, but to work through the 8 Phases of Pioneer Church Planting with the ultimate goal of seeing healthy, self-sustaining, biblical churches established across the entire region.

Core Responsibilities of a Church Planting Missionary

Pioneer church planting requires a blend of deep theological grounding, strategic thinking, and a willingness to embrace the friction of cross-cultural living. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Language & Culture Acquisition: Commit to full-time language study (1-2 years) and cultural immersion to achieve mastery in Spanish and build genuine relational equity.
  • Community Engagement: Establish a godly presence in both the county seat and the remote communities. You will actively seek ways to serve through meaningful interactions that build trust and open doors for gospel conversations.
  • Great Commission Discipleship: Exhort and mobilize the local church in the county seat toward faithful obedience in making disciples of all nations, including the unreached within their own county.
  • Strategic Execution (The 8 Phases): Build trust, learn the culture, and preach the gospel. You will nurture new believers through discipleship within the local church context, helping them discover and use their spiritual gifts.
  • Evangelistic Outreach: Help oversee existing ministries—such as children’s Bible clubs, Sunday School, and English language classes—ensuring they constantly point people to Christ.
  • Partnership & Hosting: Support visiting short-term mission teams, helping them adapt to the context, and communicate regularly with your donor partners and sending church back home.

Missionary Qualifications and Requirements

For this specific frontier opening, we are looking for a family unit or a single man. The spiritual weight of this work requires leaders who are biblically grounded and proven in ministry. Essential qualifications include:

  • Meeting the biblical qualifications for elders/deacons outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
  • Proven experience in teaching, preaching, and evangelism.
  • Completion of formal missionary training.
  • A completed college education (this is highly useful for obtaining the necessary visas).
  • Commissioning by a local church as a missionary, and full agreement with To Every Tribe’s mission and statement of faith.

Missionary Life in Remote Ecuador: Resilience & Expectations

Planting churches in southeastern Ecuador requires a specific kind of missionary endurance:

Competency The Frontline Reality
Remote Resilience You have the emotional and spiritual fortitude to thrive in all areas of life while living in a remote, often isolated location.
Incarnational Living You are committed to living within the community of service, fully engaging in the daily rhythms of the local church and society.
Collaborative Spirit You reject a “lone ranger” mentality and work exceptionally well within a team-based environment alongside both expats and nationals.

Support Raising & Next Steps

Like all long-term pioneer roles with To Every Tribe, this position is fully support-based. The worker will be required to raise a team of financial and prayer partners to fund their salary, taxes, and ministry expenses. To Every Tribe provides a dedicated fundraising coach upon acceptance to guide you through this journey.

The harvest in Ecuador is vast, but the laborers in these 30 unreached communities are few. Are you ready to go?
