A Missionary of Discipleship and Next-Gen Ministry in First Nations Canada focuses on discipling indigenous children, youth, and young adults while partnering with local churches to develop mature, resilient gospel leaders for long-term community transformation.

In many indigenous and frontier contexts, the key to seeing long-term, generational transformation rests in the hands of the next generation. Youth and children in First Nations communities face unique cultural, historical, and spiritual dynamics, yet they also possess immense potential to become bold, resilient leaders for the gospel within their own people.

At To Every Tribe, our mission is to extend the worship of Jesus to every tribe by equipping and sending gospel-driven disciple-makers to serve on cross-cultural church planting teams. We are currently seeking a Missionary of Discipleship and Next-Gen Ministry to serve among First Nations communities in Canada.

If you have a heart for youth and children, a passion for intentional relational discipleship, and a calling to walk alongside indigenous families and local churches, this opportunity offers a profound path to serve on the frontlines of gospel ministry.

Ministry in First Nations Canada: Walking Alongside the Next Generation

Ministering to the next generation in a First Nations context is not about running flashy, transactional youth programs. It is about incarnational, highly relational presence—showing up consistently, building deep trust over time, and opening your life to young people and their families.

As a Missionary of Discipleship and Next-Gen Ministry, your focus will be two-fold: discipling children, youth, and young adults into mature followers of Jesus, and partnering with the local church body to create sustainable pathways for youth leadership and spiritual growth. You will serve as a mentor, teacher, and persistent encouragement to young believers who are navigating the tensions of culture, faith, and daily life.

Core Responsibilities of a First Nations Next-Gen Missionary

Your daily rhythms will revolve around relational outreach, discipling young people, supporting local church initiatives, and working collaboratively with the field team. Key responsibilities include:

  • Next-Gen Discipleship & Mentorship: Design, lead, and facilitate intentional discipleship initiatives, Bible studies, and youth gatherings tailored for children, teens, and young adults.
  • Relational Presence: Spend consistent time in the community—attending local events, visiting families, and engaging youth in everyday activities that foster trust and open doors for gospel conversations.
  • Local Church & Ministry Integration: Work alongside local church leaders and community elders to support youth outreach, Sunday schools, or summer initiatives, ensuring efforts strengthen the local church body.
  • Leadership Development: Identify and invest in emerging indigenous youth leaders, equipping them with a firm biblical foundation and practical ministry skills to disciple their peers.
  • Cultural Humility: Approach the community as a humble learner, demonstrating deep respect for First Nations history, cultural heritage, and local traditions while remaining firmly grounded in primary gospel truth.
  • Team Participation & Support: Actively participate in field team meetings, strategic planning, joint prayer, and mutual care, helping foster a healthy, unified ministry environment.
  • Partner Communication: Maintain consistent communication with your sending church, individual financial supporters, and prayer partners, sharing stories of transformation and field updates.

Qualifications & Ministry Requirements for First Nations Next-Gen Workers

  • Demonstrated experience in youth ministry, children’s ministry, or student discipleship.
  • A strong biblical foundation and formal theological or missionary training.
  • Full agreement with To Every Tribe’s mission, distinctives, and Statement of Faith.
  • Commissioned, ordained, or recognized by a local sending church for cross-cultural missionary service.
  • Relational warmth, patience, and the ability to connect naturally with children, youth, and parents.
